Regional collaboration works and the MNCJOs End Of Term Report is testament to that

We’re delighted to announce the release of our End Of Term Report for 2021-2024. It showcases our significant achievements and the value it has brought to its member councils; Bellingen Shire Council, Kempsey Shire Council, and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council. Since its establishment in 2018, the MNCJO has consistently demonstrated that regional collaboration and strategic planning can yield impactful results, even as a smaller joint organisation.

Three Key Achievements:

  1. Fixing Country Bridges Program: One of the most notable successes was the MNCJO's involvement in the Fixing Country Bridges Program. Under Round 1 of this initiative, the three member councils secured $50 million in funding to replace 101 timber bridges across the region. The MNCJO played a crucial role in developing the Bridge Prospectus, which was instrumental in the successful funding submission. This project has significantly improved regional infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and safety for communities.

  2. The Simtables program, supported by the Mid North Coast Joint Organisation (MNCJO), has achieved significant success in enhancing community resilience and preparedness for natural disasters. The program delivered 49 workshops, engaging over 1,200 participants across multiple local government areas, including Port Macquarie Hastings, Kempsey, Nambucca, Bellingen, Coffs Harbour, and Clarence Valley. By using advanced simulation technology, these workshops provided realistic demonstrations of disaster scenarios, helping communities develop tailored response plans and build stronger connections with key disaster stakeholders such as SES, NSW RFS, NSW Health, and local councils.

Additionally, the Simtable has been upgraded to a multi-hazard tool through the Disaster Risk Reduction Fund (DRRF) program, which included flood awareness and preparation workshops. This expansion has further strengthened the collaboration between emergency services and local communities, ensuring a comprehensive approach to disaster readiness

  3. Disaster Risk Reduction Project: The MNCJO successfully implemented the Disaster Risk Reduction Project from 2022 to 2024. This project was aimed at reducing the vulnerability of communities across the Mid North Coast to natural disasters. Key outcomes included enhanced disaster preparedness through community education, the development of local risk reduction strategies, and the building of capacity within our member councils. The project has greatly improved the region's capacity to respond to and recover from disasters, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.

Value to Member Councils:

We’ve brought substantial value to its member councils by fostering a culture of collaboration, resource-sharing, and strategic alignment. The organisation's ability to secure nearly $2 million in grant funding for various projects, along with its leadership in regional initiatives, has ensured that the Mid North Coast region remains resilient, connected, and forward-looking.

Our focus is always on delivering tangible benefits to our member councils and their communities. We’re committed to continuing working on fostering regional cooperation and delivering projects that benefit the entire Mid North Coast. As the organisation looks to the future, it remains dedicated to addressing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
